During a brief period in the 1970s, Cartier's New York Fifth Avenue boutique carried Rolex watches—an arrangement explained by the operational independence of Cartier's London, New York, and Paris offices at the time. Robert Kenmore, owner of the US branch, exercised autonomy that permitted retailing competing brands, a practice unthinkable under today's brand structure.

Only a small number of Cartier-retailed Rolexes are documented, making these double-signed examples among the most sought-after retailer signatures alongside Tiffany & Co., Serpico y Laino, and Joyeria Riviera. The present watch is further distinguished by its original 14K gold C&I riveted-link bracelet—manufactured in the United States and highly prized for its quality and period-correct design.

The lower right lug is engraved with the watch's inventory number (now illegible due to age), confirming retail documentation. Dial, case, and bracelet are consistent with 1970s production.
