Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Ref. 5038G
Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Ref. 5038G
White Gold, Limited to 500 Pieces
Introduced in 1996 and produced exclusively through 1997, the reference 5038G represents one of Patek Philippe's most disciplined limited editions: a 36mm white gold perpetual calendar restricted to 500 examples worldwide. At the time of its release, the 5038G occupied a distinct position within Patek's collection—a full perpetual calendar complication housed in a case diameter that preceded the industry's subsequent shift toward larger proportions.
Technical Specifications
The watch is powered by the caliber 240 Q, Patek Philippe's ultra-thin automatic perpetual calendar movement measuring just 3.88mm in height. The movement architecture features a 22K gold micro-rotor, rhodium-plated bridges with fausses côtes decoration, and a straight-line lever escapement. The Gyromax balance is adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism, and five positions, with a free-sprung self-compensating flat balance spring ensuring chronometric stability. The movement comprises 27 jewels and operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour, delivering a 48-hour power reserve.
Case and Dial
The 18K white gold case measures 36.0mm in diameter with a slim profile enabled by the caliber 240 Q's architecture. The hobnail-pattern bezel in white gold frames a black dial displaying white Arabic numeral hour markers and lozenge-shaped hands. Three perpetual calendar subdials indicate weekday and month at 12 o'clock, date and moonphase at 6 o'clock, and 24-hour indication with leap year inside those respective subdials. An outer minute track completes the dial layout. The exhibition sapphire caseback reveals the movement's finishing and the micro-rotor's operation. A recessed pusher at 9 o'clock advances the perpetual calendar mechanism. Scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the dial. Patek Philippe logo appears on the crown.
